What Is A Nurse Practitioner?
Not all RN’s have the advanced training required as that of a Nurse Practitioner (NP). The minimum education for an RN is an associate degree in nursing (ADN). Some RN’s choose to continue education and have a bachelor of nursing degree (BSN). An NP is a registered nurse (RN) with advanced training in assessing, diagnosing and treating illness. Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) is a Master of Nursing Degree (MSN); However, Some APRNS have a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree (DNP) which provides
additional education in leadership, system change, and public policy. Nurse Practitioners perform physical exams, prescribe medications, and treat illness. NPs can differ from physicians in that they focus on prevention, wellness, and education.
